Banff National Park, Alberta As I photographed this scene in the pre-dawn tranquility, a group of four drunk Brits came marching and singing down the road. I suspect they started drinking during the previous day's World Cup match. One of them, against the counsel of his friends, decided to jump into the cold mountain lake. This, according to his own report, caused considerable discomfort to his bollocks. More upsetting to me was the disturbance to the placid surface of the lake. - Private Island

Two Jack Lake Banff National Park, Alberta - Missed opportunity
I went outside at the edge of darkness, with an ND8 filter on the lens. I was set up for a 4 minute exposure to blur the clouds and the fog. I interrupted this exposure after 9 seconds, because I realized I forgot to cover the eyepiece. In reviewing the images, I realized I should have tried a short exposure. I like the striking pattern in the clouds, centered over the isthmus of land. To salvage this exposure, I had to brighten it by 5 stops in Lightroom (the maximum allowed), and then a bit more in Photoshop. The Pentax K-5 II holds up well, as usual. - Log, Vermillion Lakes
